Johann Berby
West of Africa - Senegal
In 2005, Johann went on a tour of Africa with the jazz ensemble of Philippe Combelle (Jean-Jacques Elangue, Nicolas Genest, Tom McClung, Gilles Rennes) replacing Linley Marthe on St Louis island (Senegal) to participate in the st.Louis Jazz Festival.
He met several jazz musicians but also many musicians from the island with whom he exchanged music and life in an enriching experience.
He also met the drummer Mourad Benhammou and the trumpetist Jean Loup Lognon.
He then travelled around Senegal, Dakar, arriving finally in Gambia.
Johann, with some members of the group along with Jean Loup Lognon went to Gambia to accompany Mandi Gaines (American singer on tour throughout Africa), Phillipe and Johann proposed that the group accompany her singing throughout the rest of her tour of Senegal and Gambia.
